Welcome to Scarlett and Black - a little bit about me!
Hi, I’m Janie and welcome to Scarlett and Black! I am delighted that you have decided to shop with us! As a professional designer, I have been involved in many aspects of design for over 35 years. Initially designing womenswear collections which were sold in both Europe and the UK to stores like Harrods and exclusive boutiques in Knightsbridge and Chelsea. I organised numerous fashion shows featuring my own collections and have taken part in many events in the fashion calendar including London Fashion Week and have shown my own products and collections at fashion trade shows throughout the fashion and buying season.
My experience is made up of just about anything retail from the initial concept to the sales floor and everything in between, fashion design and interiors, this is a brief summary of my career so far!
I put together fashion shoots for my collections and other luxury labels for magazines and media using designer collections from Murray Arbeid, John Galliano, Valentino Red, Ben de Lisi. I also produced Fashion shows in Knightsbridge, at other exclusive venues and at the Park Lane Hotel which have helped raise money for charity which also feature my own ranges, evening way and womenswear which have featured on Sky News, Hello Magazine and national press.
Due to my natural flair for colour and design, many of my roles evolved in other areas including product development as well as putting together ranges, creating bespoke retail interiors for specialist boutiques from designer to high street, whilst working with many well known retailers and brands. I have also worked in production with factories who have produced ranges for Caroline Charles, Hobbs, Tomasz Starweski, Matthew Williamson to name a few.
My career portfolio includes extensive retail and buying experience at all levels as well as the setting-up of stores and boutiques, creating exciting visual merchandising and pop up events and shops, to running groups of retail stores. In my retail career I have worked for well known brands such as Harvey Nichols, Aspinal of London, Max Mara, Daks Simpson, Gerard Darel, Hermes, Anouska Hempel, House of Fraser, and Marks and Spencer on the sales floor and in management.
My clothing ranges have also featured in Hello Magazine and I have been interviewed on Sky News. Other Media appearances include being asked to discuss fashion and retail on BBC Radio, as well working with magazines such as Surrey Life, Vogue, Tatler, and Elle, writing articles on fashion and the latest trends and influences.
Scarlett and Black began with a seed of an idea of providing a design led, home and lifestyle store that would offer a bespoke and personally curated range of chic, fashionable products. My stylish and handsome husband Jonathan, came up with the name and we had plans to work together which was our dream. Sadly Jonathan didn’t live long enough to see the fruition of our vision but his memory lives on through our ethos, and in Scarlett and Black, with some of my products taking his name for added poignancy.
